HISTORY
Nelson-Young Lumber Company was started in 1913 when Fred A. Young and two partners, James Fifield and Al Schaller purchased the old Whittet Lumber Company. In the 1920s, the yard became known as the Schaller-Young Lumber Company. Fred's son-in-law, Robert M. Nelson, joined the company in the 1930s. The name was changed to Nelson-Young Lumber Co. Robert's oldest son, Robert Y. Nelson, (known has R.Y.) joined the family business in 1955 after college and military service. Robert's youngest son, Dave, joined the business in 1967 after college, the navy, and work for several builders and building manufacturers. Presently, Dave and two of his children, Tracy Tronnes and John Nelson, as well as his grandson Matt Tronnes are active in the business. R.Y.'s son Eric Nelson is also active.

The lumber yard now includes locations in Evansville, WI (added in 1981) and Deerfield, WI (added in 1985). Primary customers are building contractors in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Nelson-Young Lumber prides itself on excellent customer service and timely delivery of quality building materials.

Nelson Truss Inc. was founded on October 1, 1999. The Nelsons purchased the assets from Superior Truss and continued in the truss production business. The primary customers are building contractors purchasing building materials from Nelson-Young Lumber.
